Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Under 5s Advice Line

This advice line, set up by the CAVUHB Children’s Speech and Language Therapy team, can be used for tips on ways to help your child’s communication skills. The Speech and Language Therapist will be able to give helpful information about how talking develops and suggest activities which you can do to encourage play skills, understanding of language, using words and general communication.

Services. Being a parent can bring joy and happiness as well as challenges, at times.
The aim of Cardiff Parenting Services is to work in partnership with families living
in Cardiff to improve parenting confidence and skills, strengthen relationships and

Every Child Wales

The Every Child Wales website was launched by Public Health Wales to help children
have a healthy and happy future. The website is designed for families and professionals
and contains free downloadable resources e.g. Introducing Solid Foods, a screen time
tracker and further information to help children have a healthy weight when they start

Foodwise in Pregnancy

This is delivered in some areas of Wales as part of the Nutrition Skills for Life
programme. This is an informal course for pregnant women and their partners about
eating well and healthy weight gain during pregnancy. Speak to your NYLO lead for
information on programmes in your area. You can also download the Foodwise in
Pregnancy APP which provides key information on being healthy during pregnancy.

Healthy Start

The Healthy Start Scheme is a UK wide means-tested scheme for families with young
children. Families on a low income or on certain benefits may be eligible to enrol.
Once registered, families get free vouchers every week to spend on plain milk, fresh
and frozen fruits and vegetables and first infant formula milk.
