This service offers a range of information, advice and assistance for children, young people and their families in Cardiff. The Team can provide information and advice on a range of aspects of family life including: child behaviour, childcare, parental support, school attendance and employment, money and housing.

Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Under 5s Advice Line


This advice line, set up by the CAVUHB Children’s Speech and Language Therapy team, can be used for tips on ways to help your child’s communication skills. The Speech and Language Therapist will be able to give helpful information about how talking develops and suggest activities which you can do to encourage play skills, understanding of language, using words and general communication.

Cardiff Parenting

Cardiff Parenting 0-18 and Flying Start Parenting are both part of Cardiff Parenting
Services. Being a parent can bring joy and happiness as well as challenges, at times.
The aim of Cardiff Parenting Services is to work in partnership with families living
in Cardiff to improve parenting confidence and skills, strengthen relationships and
nurture wellbeing and resilience.

Every Child Wales

The Every Child Wales website was launched by Public Health Wales to help children
have a healthy and happy future. The website is designed for families and professionals
and contains free downloadable resources e.g. Introducing Solid Foods, a screen time
tracker and further information to help children have a healthy weight when they start

First Steps Nutrition

First Steps Nutrition Trust is an independent public health nutrition charity that
provides information and free downloadable resources to support eating well from
pre-conception to five years.

Foodwise in Pregnancy

This is delivered in some areas of Wales as part of the Nutrition Skills for LifeTM
programme. This is an informal course for pregnant women and their partners about
eating well and healthy weight gain during pregnancy. Speak to your NYLO lead for
information on programmes in your area. You can also download the Foodwise in
Pregnancy APP which provides key information on being healthy during pregnancy.

Get Cooking

This is an 8 week practical cookery course which promotes healthy eating messages.

Healthy Start

The Healthy Start Scheme is a UK wide means-tested scheme for families with young
children. Families on a low income or on certain benefits may be eligible to enrol.
Once registered, families get free vouchers every week to spend on plain milk, fresh
and frozen fruits and vegetables and first infant formula milk.

This website gives parents ideas so they can make decisions about what can work for

UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative

The Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) aims to support women and families with feeding and giving babies the best possible start in life. A key area of BFI is supporting women to start breastfeeding and continue for as long as they and their baby would like to. The UK initiative is part of global work between Unicef and the World Health Organisation.
